The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia has taken note of the statement by Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson regarding the consequences of Georgia's accession to the European Union and shares Russia's position on the consequences of Georgia's accession to the EU.

We are closely monitoring Georgia's foreign policy developments and note that Georgia's policies are not conducive to building trust in the region, as evidenced by a number of factors: periodic statements by the Georgian side, military cooperation with NATO, the refusal to sign a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force with the Republic of Abkhazia, and Georgia's policy aimed at isolating of the Republic of Abkhazia internationally.

Georgia's military cooperation with NATO, including joint exercises on Georgian territory is a source of serious concern. Such actions cannot but be seen as a factor negatively impacting regional stability and increasing tensions.

Another serious destabilizing factor is Georgia's destructive position, expressed in particular in its refusal to sign a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force with the Republic of Abkhazia, which is the primary goal of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Caucasus. In turn, the Abkhaz side has emphasized the importance of intensifying of efforts to conclude this legally binding agreement at each round of the Discussions.

Based on the above, it follows that Tbilisi is hindering the formation of a sustainable security architecture in the region.

We consistently prioritize ensuring our own security, sovereignty, and sustainable development. Any integration processes involving Georgia must not pose a threat to the existing realities.
