On May 19, a meeting between Oleg Bartsits, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, and Mikhail Galuzin, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation took place at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of the 67-th round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Caucasus (IDS). A delegation from the Republic of South Ossetia led by Konstantin Kochiev, State Advisor to the President of the Republic of South Ossetia also participated in the meeting. 

Representing the Abkhaz side were Odyssey Bigvava, Deputy Foreign Minister, Lasha Avidzba and Astanda Pataraya, MFA officials from the Republic of Abkhazia and Kan Taniya, Minister- Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Russian Federation. 

During the meeting, a substantive exchange of views took place on key issues on the agenda of the upcoming round of the IDS which will take place on July 1 During the discussion, the parties expressed their mutual readiness to continue joint dialogue and work towards achieving of their goals of ensuring security and stability in the region. Particular attention was paid to the conclusion of a legally binding document on international guarantees of the non-use of force between the Republic of Abkhazia and Georgia. 

The Abkhaz side once again stated its readiness to resume the work of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).

The meeting participants also discussed humanitarian issues related to freedom of movement, as well as a number of other pressing issues of mutual interest. 

The International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Caucasus is the only multilateral negotiation format launched since the events of August 2008 It brings together representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Republic of South Ossetia, the Russian Federation, Georgia, and the United States, co-chaired by the UN, OSCE, and the EU. The format remains an important platform for direct dialogue on regional security issues.
