"A qualitatively new stage in the history of Abkhaz diplomacy was opened in 2008 after the official recognition of the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Abkhazia by the Russian Federation and a number of other states," the congratulatory message of Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation addressed to Daur Cove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia on the occasion 25-th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.
As the Russian foreign minister noted, "the task of positioning the republic in the world arena as an independent subject of international relations is not easy. In the current conditions it requires special adherence to principles and consistency, the ability to adequately respond to both open hostility and indulgent friendliness, invariably proceed from the long-term interests of strengthening independent Abkhaz statehood".
"We are satisfied that in recent years we have managed to establish an effective mechanism for Russian-Abkhazian foreign policy coordination. It allows us to jointly solve common tasks to strengthen the international position of Abkhazia, to act as a united front at the Geneva discussions on Transcaucasia", the message says.
As Sergey Lavrov emphasized, the Russian Federation highly appreciates the contribution that the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry makes to the development of the entire range of allied relations between the two countries.
In his message, the Russian Foreign Minister also expressed his readiness to continue through MGIMO (University) and the Diplomatic Academy - to contribute to the training and further professional development of Abkhaz diplomats.
