On May 25, 2018 in preparation to the upcoming 44-th round of the Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, Daur Kove, the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia held a regular meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva discussions as part of the Toivo Claar, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Günter Behler, Special Representative for the South Caucasus from German presidency in the OSCE, Hilo Mamo , the UN special representative at the international Geneva discussions and  Bern Kuen, political adviser to the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus.

The Abkhazian Foreign Ministry officials Lasha Avidzba, Arthur Gagulia, Irakli Tuzhba, Anna Hamisonia, as well as Vladimir Arlan, Deputy Head of SSS of Abkhazia took part in the meeting.

Traditionally the main subject of the meeting was discussion of the agenda of the upcoming round of International Discussions.

The Foreign Minister of Abkhazia positively assessed the proposal of the Co-Chairs to present their ideas to the sides on making corrections aimed at changing of the negotiation format and, in turn, suggested developing of a working schedule for the Geneva Discussions, which he said would have a positive impact on the negotiation process.

Hilo Mamo, the UN Special Representative at the international Geneva discussions expressed his gratitude for accepting of the proposal of the co-chairs and the willingness to cooperate.

Gunther Bechler, Special Representative for the South Caucasus from the German Presidency of the OSCE informed the Minister that that was his last visit to the region as co-chairman. Mr. Bechler stressed that he sincerely hoped that progress would be made at the next round of the Geneva Discussions.

Later, during the conversation, a number of issues related to the forthcoming agenda were discussed. In particular, there were the issues raised in the second working group.

Daur Kove, the Abkhazian Foreign Minister for his part noted that the primary task in the framework of the Geneva Discussions is a clear definition of the results that turn out well to achieve by the negotiators.

Speaking about possible prospects in the negotiation process with Georgia, the Minister noted: "Speaking about a possible peace, it means peaceful coexistence of the parties. This may only be achieved through peaceful initiatives. We do not need to offer "steps to a better future" - programs that carry a populist nature lead nowhere. We must take real steps, one of which may be the decision of the Government of Georgia to cancel the law "On the Occupied Territories".

The parties then discussed a number of technical issues related to the upcoming round of discussions. The next 45th round of the Geneva Discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia is scheduled for October 9-10, 2018.
