Today,in Sukhum, the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia, Viacheslav Chirikba, met with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus.
Philippe Lefort (EU), Padraig Murphy (OSCE) and Antti Turunnen arrived in Abkhazia the day before.
The Head of Foreign Affairs, Viacheslav Chirikba, congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S. Lavrov with the Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. It is said, inter alia:
"May 9th is the holiday of light sorrow and at the same time of joy and triumph, reminiscent of what we survived in that severe time. We will hold in our remembrance forever those who went to the death in the fight to save their motherland, those, who by their heroic work on the home front approached Victory and those who restored the country from the ruins".
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Viacheslav Chirikba congratulated the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation S. Grigoriev with the Victory Day of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. It is said, inter alia: “This unforgettable day, May 9th, which entered into history with bright pictures of general triumph and the thunder of artillery volley heralded an end to the Great Patriotic War and victory of the Soviet people over fascist Germany. Please, accept sincere congratulations and words of gratitude which are first of all addressed to the veterans- front-line soldiers, toilers of the home front, and prisoners of the camps - all those, who overcame the weight of war and knew the joy of victory".
On May 5th twenty seven persons from Syria came to Abkhazia. The representatives from the MFA of the republic and State committee on repatriation met them at Sochi airport. The representatives of the leadership of the republic, public, students and namesakes were waiting for them in the yard of the hotel “Aitar” where they will live for 4 months.
