The Syrian Arab Republic recognized the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia on May 29, 2018.
The joint communiqué was adopted between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic.
It is said:
"The Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic declare the mutual recognition and the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries at the embassy level which reflects their common desire to develop the relations in all areas."
The Russian Federation recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on August 26, 2008. Abkhazia and South Ossetia were recognized by Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, Vanuatu and Tuvalu following Moscow.
