On May 16, 2022, the First meeting of the Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia chaired by Inal Ardzinba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs took place at the Media Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

Opening the event, Inal Ardzinba noted that the first meeting of the Public Council is timed to the Day of Establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, celebrated on May 17.

"The Abkhazian Foreign Ministry was established on May 17, 1993, in the midst of very difficult events for our people. We created the Public Council for consultations on tactics, strategy of our actions, for open and transparent discussion of what we are doing. I am sure that it will be a useful work," said Ardzinba.

The meeting discussed issues of strategic security in the South Caucasus in the conditions of a special military operation in Ukraine by the Russian Federation, current aspects of the Abkhaz-Russian inter-state relations, ensuring conditions for the participation of the Republic of Abkhazia in the integration processes in the post-Soviet space, building cooperation with the Republic of Belarus.

They also discussed the activities of UN agencies and international non-governmental organizations in the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia, relations with Georgia, and the work of the Geneva discussions format on security and stability in the Transcaucasia, prospects for further international recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia. At the meeting, the importance of attractive information positioning of the Republic of Abkhazia in the international information platforms and the image of the Republic of Abkhazia in the world was noted.

During the session, members of the Public Council exchanged their opinions on the agenda and on the eve of the Day of Education of the Ministry congratulated the Head and the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the forthcoming holiday.

The Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia includes experts in the sphere of foreign policy, statesmen with experience in foreign policy work, veterans of the 1992-1993 Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia and international journalists.

The Public Council is a public consultative and advisory body under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia.
