Commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia

The resolution concerning, inter alia, “the situation of security and human rights in Abkhazia” was adopted during the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Luxembourg.
The resolution submitted by the Georgian delegation contains a standard set of documents for this kind of propaganda stamps on the “situation in the occupied territories” as well as the meaningless appeal to Russia to cancel the decision of the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.
The Georgian side distributes its version of the situation in Abkhazia with enviable persistence, using the numerous international platforms: the UN, OSCE, EU, NATO, the Council of Europe and others. The policy of Tbilisi towards Abkhazia has not undergone significant changes and continues to be anti-human and discriminatory since the time of Georgia’s aggression in Abkhazia in 1992-1993 despite on the occasional peace program. There is no movement towards rethinking the approaches unacceptable for the Republic of Abkhazia.
Unfortunately, there is no understanding that the decision to recognize the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia by the Russian Federation fully reflects the will of the multinational people of Abkhazia and cannot be canceled.
The OSCE parliamentarians unconsciously undermine the fundamental principles to be followed by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, accepting the politically engaged documents from Georgia.
We believe that if the representatives of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly had a desire to get acquainted with the point of view of the Republic of Abkhazia and to understand the essence of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict in more detail, then perhaps the assessments of the parliamentarians of the OSCE member states would be more balanced and would not be under the dominant influence of Tbilisi propaganda.
We appeal to the leadership of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to refrain from putting to the vote the opportunistic politicized draft resolutions that seriously complicate a constructive dialogue within the framework of the Geneva International Discussions.
