The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic hosted the meeting between Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia and Walid Al-Moallem, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic on August 17, 2017.

Adgur Ardzinba, the Minister of Economy, Irakli Tuzhba, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Inver Alshundba, the Head of the Middle East and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia also took part in the meeting from the Abkhaz side.

Opening the meeting the foreign ministers exchanged welcome words and expressed confidence in the need to establish and develop mutual relations in all areas of bilateral cooperation.

Daur Kove thanked the leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic for inviting the delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia to visit Syria as well as the opportunity to participate in the Damascus International Fair in which Abkhazia was represented by a separate pavilion.

During the meeting the parties also exchanged views on the current military and political situation in and around Syria. It was noted that the nation of Abkhazia and Syria had to defend in their hands the right to free and independent development of their countries.

Daur Kove stressed that in Abkhazia they are following the events in Syria with great attention and sincerely sympathize and support the nation of Syria in its struggle against international terrorism. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia expressed his conviction that in the near future Syria will overcome all existing challenges and embark on full-fledged peaceful and stable development of its own country.

At the end of the meeting the parties once again confirmed their mutual desire to build full-fledged bilateral intergovernmental relations.
