The Institute for Socio-Political Research and Regional Development (Tiraspol) conducted the International Scientific and Expert Round Table "The Phenomenon of Russian Peacekeeping on the Dniester: 25 Years of Peace and Stability in the Epicenter of Geopolitical Transformations".
The round table discussed the historical and military-political aspects of the peacekeeping operation, as well as modern challenges to peacekeeping and the prospects for security and stability on the Dniester.
Experts from Russia, Belarus and Pridnestrovie, as well as the Head of the Official Mission of the Republic of South Ossetia to the PMR and the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Abkhazia in Pridnestrovie took part in the round table.
The fact that the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester is successful, as well as the military in fact "not on paper" protects the world in Transdniestria, said Vladimir Zotov, the head of the analytical center "Platform for Public Dialogue" from Serbia. He cited the example of the situation in the Serbian Krajina, the established local army on the territory of Croatia in 1991 after the war in Yugoslavia, caused by the unconstitutional exit of Croatia and Slovenia from its composition. The war broke out, the victims of which were hundreds of thousands of Serbs forced to become refugees.
According to Belarusian experts, the situation around Pridnestrovie today is quite complicated and can remain so for the long time. Along with Moldova, the security of our republic is threatened by the situation in Ukraine. "In Ukraine, in their actions guided by installations from the United States, there is the revanchism strong here, similar to the Georgian one in its time. "Security," says Alexander Shpakovsky, the director of the non-governmental think tank "Actual Concept" and stresses that it is necessary to try in the situation from the new escalation and not allow the violation of the situation, which is so complicated.
In his speech, Alexander Vataman, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Abkhazia in PMR briefly presented three important periods in the contemporary history of Abkhazia. These are 1992-1993 - the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia, 1994-2008, the period of the peacekeeping operation in the zone of the Abkhaz-Georgian conflict and from 2008 to the present.
In more detail, A. Vataman dwelt on the onset of action in the so-called "cracked" operations, as well as on those challenges and threats that are common for Pridnestrovie and Abkhazia in the context of geopolitical transformations.
The outcome of the event was the adoption of decisions in which the participants of the international scientific and expert round table ascertained that the peacekeeping mission must continue until the final settlement of the conflict, since it will create basis for political negotiations. The destruction of this basis can only lead to the new aggravation of the conflict.
