The meeting of the foreign ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia took place in Baku on September 6, 2017, as it has become known; it resulted in the adoption of the joint declaration, where the parties stressed the need to resolve existing conflicts threatening peaceful and stable development in the region through political dialogue based on principles of international law.
At the same time the foreign ministers of three countries expressed respect and support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity of states and inviolability of the internationally recognized borders.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia welcomes and fully shares the principles of peaceful settlement of conflicts based on the political dialogue taking into account the interests of all parties. The Abkhaz side for many years unsuccessfully tries to draw the Georgian side to work aimed at creating mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.
Unfortunately, the Georgian side regularly declaring on its international platforms on its adherence to the peaceful settlement of existing conflicts in practice persistently refuses to sign the legally binding document on the non-use of military force against the Republic of Abkhazia. In these conditions the numerous statements of high-ranking Georgian politicians do not cause the slightest confidence and have no legal force.
As for the principle of territorial integrity on which the Georgian side refers to then it comes into direct conflict with another fundamental international principle - the right of nation to self-determination specified in Article 1 of the UN Charter.
The nation of Abkhazia made their historic choice in favor of building an independent, sovereign and democratic state proceeded from this fundamental international principle.
In this regard we would like once again to confirm the commitment of the Abkhaz side to any initiatives aimed at ensuring peaceful and safe development in the region on the basis of the current principles of the international law.
