Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia
13 June 2017 1043
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia noticed a number of statements made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania during his visit to Georgia. In particular, the Minister visited the zone adjacent to the Georgian-Abkhazian state border, where he made an appeal to continue the policy of non-recognition and isolation of Abkhazia, and also accused the Russian authorities of annexation.

Over the years, the Abkhaz side has been faced with a complete lack of objective assessments by official representatives of Western countries making various comments concerning the Georgian-Abkhaz armed conflict and its consequences.

In this light, the position of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Lithuania is not unexpected, but merely serves as an additional and obvious confirmation of the absolutely biased policy of the Western countries aimed at unconditional support for any, even the most horrific actions of the Georgian leadership.

We would like to remind the Minister that Lithuania is one of the countries of the European Union that actively participated in the modernization of the Georgian army, transferring various types of weapons and thereby encouraging the revanchist sentiments of the Georgian leadership towards Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Thus, Lithuania is a direct accomplice in the bloody events of 2008, unleashed by the criminal regime of Saakashvili.

It is well known that throughout the last decades, since gaining independence, Lithuania's entire foreign policy has been built exclusively on the basis of anti-Russian hysteria.

Of course, in these conditions it is difficult to count on any objectivity on the part of the representatives of Lithuania, who are appealing with the hackneyed stamps characteristic of the official Georgian propaganda.

In this regard, we would like to assure the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania that his statements on Abkhazia are purely declarative and populist, and they cannot influence the further development of our republic.

Moreover, contrary to the expectations of our opponents, the Republic of Abkhazia intends to follow the path of systematic development and strengthening of strategic partnership with the Russian Federation along the whole spectrum of bilateral relations.
