On August 25, a meeting was held between Inal Ardzinba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia and Faisal Mikdad, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Compatriots Abroad of the Syrian Arab Republic at the Media Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia.
Inal Ardzinba, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia welcomed the Syrian delegation and thanked Faisal Mikdad for the visit.
Inal Ardzinba expressed confidence that "today's dialogue will serve as an additional stimulus for the development of relations between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic" and thanked the Syrian Foreign Minister for the invitation to visit Damascus.
The head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry, Faisal Mikdad, in his response, noted that the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia was not accidental, drawing attention to the fact that relations between the Abkhaz and Syrian peoples have a rich history.
During the talks, a wide range of issues of Abkhaz-Syrian relations was discussed, in particular, the intensification of trade and economic dialogue, interaction in the field of culture, cooperation in the fields of science, education, young leaders, as well as issues of Eurasian integration and global security. The parties noted the importance of expanding relations between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic.
Following the meeting, the Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Compatriots Abroad of the Syrian Arab Republic.
