The meeting of the delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia with Najat Anzur, the President of the Syrian National Council hosted at the People's Council of the Syrian Arab Republic, August 20, 2017.

The Abkhaz side was represented by Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Adgur Ardzinba, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Abkhazia, Gennady Gaguliya, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Abkhazia, Irakli Tuzhba, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Inver Alshundba, the head of the Department of Middle East and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

During the meeting the Abkhaz and Syrian sides discussed ways of developing and strengthening parliamentary relations between the two republics on the whole range of issues of mutual interest.

In order to intensify the bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation it was proposed to exchange visits of parliamentary delegations of the two countries. This approach according to the general opinion of the participants of the meeting will serve as the good stimulus for the strengthening of friendship and cooperation between Abkhazia and Syria.

Daur Kove noted that the holding of the Damascus International Fair for the first time in several years since the beginning of the active hostilities is the serious victory for the Syrian people. Such a large-scale international event conducted by the Syrian authorities in the conditions of an ongoing war with international terrorism demonstrates the desire of the people and the leadership of Syria to establish peaceful life.

"The Republic of Abkhazia also participates in the Damascus International Exhibition in order to support the nation of Syria in its desire to continue the progressive and civilized development of its own republic," said Daur Kove.

It was also noted that Syria, as well as Abkhazia, became hostage to the double standards policy pursued by the West. Both countries are under the negative influence of the Western policy of isolation in the international arena. In order to confront these serious international challenges, it is necessary to build the common strategy aimed at preventing such negative scenarios.

At the end of the meeting Daur Kove , the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia wished the Syrian side to promptly overcome the existing military and political crisis and create conditions for the full, safe and peaceful development of Syria.
