The delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia met with Imad Khamis, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Syrian Arab Republic on August 21, 2017.
The Abkhaz side was represented by: the head of delegation - Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Adgur Ardzinba, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Abkhazia's, Gennady Gaguliya, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Abkhazia, Irakli Tuzhba, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Inver Alshundba, the head of the Department of Middle East and Africa Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.
Opening the meeting Imad Khamis, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Syria welcomed the guests from Abkhazia and on behalf of the Syrian leadership expressed particular appreciation for the objective position of the Republic of Abkhazia the authorities in relation to the processes that are taking place in Syria.
Imad Khamis gave positive assessment of the participation of representatives of Abkhazia in the Damascus International Fair, the successful conduct of the very important indicator for the whole of Syria.
According to the Syrian Council of Ministers, despite all the difficulties faced by the Republic, the government still manages to gradually restore the peaceful life and to improve the socio-economic situation in the country.
"Thanks to the consolidated position of the entire Syrian people, we managed to achieve serious success in combating international terrorism," said Imad Khamis.
As noted, the Syrian leadership perceives the Republic of Abkhazia as a friendly state and intends to follow the path of establishing and developing bilateral intergovernmental relations. Guided by the directives of Syrian President Bashar Assad, the Syrian government intends to build full-scale relations with Syria's strategic partners, including the Republic of Abkhazia.
At the same time, the Syrian authorities expressed their interest in developing trade and economic cooperation with the Republic of Abkhazia. For these purposes, by order of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Syria the special government commission will be formed, which, together with Abkhazian colleagues, will develop the concept aimed at developing socio-economic and trade relations with the Republic of Abkhazia.
In his turn, Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia thanked the leadership of Syria for the invitation to visit the republic and the opportunity to participate in the Damascus International Exhibition of representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abkhazia.
Daur Kove stressed that in Abkhazia people closely monitored developments in Syria and with great empathy and support treat the people of Syria who like the people of Abkhazia, are forced to defend their freedom and independence with weapons.
"We fully support the actions of the leadership of Syria aimed at combating international terrorism," said Kove.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia also confirmed the need to build full-fledged bilateral inter-state Syrian-Abkhaz relations. As noted by Daur Kove, the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia to Damascus will lay the good foundation for establishing bilateral relations and open the new page in the modern history of relations between the two countries.
