On December 12, 2023, a meeting was held in Damascus between Inal Ardzinba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, and Faisal Al Miqdad, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Compatriots of the Syrian Arab Republic. 

The foreign ministers of Abkhazia and Syria discussed issues on the regional and international agenda, as well as key aspects of Abkhaz-Syrian bilateral relations. 

The main results of the meeting:

The parties condemned Israeli airstrikes against civilian infrastructure in Syria. 

The need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was noted. The foreign ministers called on the international community to pay attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in the region. 

The illegitimate nature of the Western sanctions regime in relation to Syria is noted. 

The head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry noted that, in accordance with the Memorandum between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, he is working to assist in expanding of contacts of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Middle East. 

Faisal Mikdad supported the decision to ban USAID projects in the Republic of Abkhazia. 

The Consulate of the Republic of Abkhazia will begin operating in Syria in the nearest future. 

Abkhaz specialists and diplomats will be able to take advanced training courses at the Diplomatic Institute at the Syrian Foreign Ministry. 

Syria has officially invited Abkhazia to participate in the major Damascus International Fair, which will be held in August-September next year. The head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry spoke in support of intensifying contacts between universities in Abkhazia and Syria. 

The foreign ministers of Abkhazia and Syria discussed the role of Abkhazia as a mediator in establishing investment contacts between Syria and Russia with the possibility of holding meetings in a trilateral format.
