Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia
19 July 2017 1236
As it became known, the military exercises of the NATO countries and partners of the "Noble Partner 2017" alliance will be held in Georgia from July 30 to August 12. More than 2,800 military personnel from Georgia, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Turkey, Slovenia, Armenia and Ukraine will take part in the exercises.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia expresses serious concern over the planned holding of large-scale exercises in the Georgia-NATO and partners format, using heavy armored vehicles and aviation, which will employ several thousand troops.

We are deeply convinced that the planned increase in the scale and intensity of the operational training of the armed forces of Georgia poses a serious threat to peace and stability in the region and undermines the efforts of existing international formats aimed at resolving existing conflicts.

It is characteristic that such exercises are held in Georgia for several years in a row and every year there is a serious increase in the number of servicemen and heavy armored vehicles involved. Such disappointing statistics frankly testifies to the rapid build-up of Georgia's military potential with the direct participation of its American and European patrons.

We would like to remind that as a result of such a short-sighted and dangerous policy of the countries of the West actively contributing to the process of militarization of Georgia, there was a significant increase in revanchist sentiments in Georgia that pushed official Tbilisi to launch military aggression in August 2008.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia regards the actions of Georgia and its NATO partners as frankly destructive and aimed at further escalating tensions in the region.
