On the 37th round of the Geneva Discussions
5 October 2016 1006
On 4 and 5 October in Geneva was held the 37th round of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia. The delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia, led by the Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Kan Taniya included employees of the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia Lasha Avidzba Denis Otyrba, Tengiz Tarba and Timur Shanava.

The work took place in two working groups - on security and humanitarian issues. In both groups, the Abkhaz delegation expressed concern about the continuing trend for politicization of humanitarian issues by the Georgian delegation and stressed the inadmissibility of dissemination by Georgia of untrue "reports" on human rights in the Republic of Abkhazia at international platforms. It was noted with regret that at these international platforms the opinions of the Republic of Abkhazia and South Ossetia were not taken into account. So, the resolution on refugees and IDPs put forward by the Georgian side annually at the UN General Assembly has led to the destabilization of the Geneva negotiations. The continuation of such practices and the new initiative to promote the draft resolution on Abkhazia and South Ossetia at the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council, are fraught with the suspension of the work of all humanitarian groups and are a direct threat of failure of the Geneva discussions.

Before beginning the discussion of the refugee problem in the second working group, the Abkhaz, Russian and South Ossetian participants in protest left the hall.
