On January 31, the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia hosted a meeting of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Kan Tania with the heads of international non-governmental organizations and specialized UN agencies that operate in the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia.
The meeting was attended by representatives of nine international organizations: Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Action Against Hunger (ACF), International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), UN Development Programme (UNDP), World Vision International (WVI), UN High Commissioner Refugees (UNHCR), UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and HALO Trust (HALO Trust).
At the beginning of the meeting Kan Tania presented the head of the Department on cooperation with international organizations Artur Gaguliya, as well as employees of the department.
During the meeting, they talked about the new scheme of work of international organizations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia. In particular, it was agreed to meet with each organization individually to provide reports in the form of presentation of the activities carried out by organizations in Abkhazia.
The Deputy Minister spoke about the plans for 2017, in particular the introduction of the practice of registration of projects of international organizations at the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia for their subsequent approval of the registration of representative offices of INGOs in Abkhazia in accordance with the current legislation of the Republic of Abkhazia, as well as the accreditation of foreign citizens, employees of international organizations working in the Republic of Abkhazia.
The head of the Department on cooperation with international organizations Artur Gaguliya stressed that it is planned to return to the practice of joint visits of staff of the Department and INGOs members to the location of the projects, programs for more accurate analysis of provided international assistance.
The meeting was held in a traditionally friendly atmosphere, the two sides agreed to hold meetings in this format on a regular basis.
