As it became known, on July 12, 2017, the Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN had e meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during which he stressed the importance of creating international mechanisms for ensuring security and the need to monitor the observance of human rights in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Unfortunately, the Georgian side continues to use various international platforms to disseminate false and one-sided information about the events in Abkhazia. Taking advantage of the patronage of its Western partners, Georgia blocks the participation of representatives of Abkhazia in the work of any international institutions. Thus, a vicious practice has developed in which the international community continues to rely on biased information disseminated by official Georgian propaganda to create an unfavorable image around Abkhazia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia considers it necessary to recall that the only international mechanism aimed at resolving the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict remains the Geneva international discussions, as well as the existing Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).

Against this background, the regular calls of the Georgian side to introduce any additional international security mechanisms look simply absurd.

Moreover, as practice shows, the Georgian side is absolutely not ready to start real solution of existing problems aimed at settling the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict and providing security conditions in the region. The destructive actions of the Georgian side at the 40th round of the Geneva discussions, in which, for the first time, all participants agreed the text of the oral statement of the parties on the non-use of force, proposed by the Georgian side, can serve as a vivid proof of this. As a result, the only party that refused to accept its own document was the Georgian side.

This blatant fact is a direct and unconditional testimony to the absence of any desire by Georgia to address security issues.

With regard to the human rights issues that concern our Georgian opponents, we would also like to recall that at the end of 2016, with the assistance of the European Union, a mission to study the human rights situation was sent to Abkhazia, led by the well-known European diplomat and human rights activist Thomas Hammarberg, whose final report highlights the positive dynamics in solving numerous issues related to the observance of human rights in Abkhazia.

Thus, accusations of Georgian politicians that serious violations in the field of human rights are taking place in the Republic of Abkhazia are exclusively politicized and populist.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia once again draws the attention of international organizations to the need to obtain reliable information from all sides of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict and calls for refraining from adopting tendentious statements and documents that cast a shadow on the credibility of these international organizations.
