On 25 January, the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia hosted a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Daur Kove and the UNHCR Regional Representative for the South Caucasus, Johannes Van Der Klaauw. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Kan Tania, head of the Department for Interaction with International Organizations Artur Gaguliya and head of the UNHCR office in Abkhazia Aziz Rahdzho.

Opening the meeting Daur Kove said that he is well familiar with the organization's activities and praised the projects, which are implemented by the UNHCR in Abkhazia.

Johannes Van Der Klaauw thanked the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia for the opportunity to carry out their activities in the country and talked about some of the achievements that have been made by the organization in the past few months. He also briefed the Minister on projects that UNHCR is planning to implement in 2017 on the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia.

The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

UNHCR (UNHCR) is the UN agency, which implements programs to provide assistance to refugees and victims of conflict, especially vulnerable parts of the population. The UNHCR office operates in Abkhazia since 1993.
